Josep Masriera i Manovens
(Barcelona 1841-1912)
Pilgrimage to Sant Grau d’Ardenya/Seascape
Oil on canvas
100 x 171 cm

Landscape painter, draftsman, goldsmith and art theorist. Influenced by Ramon Martí and Alsina, Luís Rigalt and Carlos de Haes. His work is characterized by thoroughness, tonal richness, luminosity and realism.
The cleaning of the aged varnish in these two large-scale works has allowed us to recover the original hue of Masriera’s palette, helping us to appreciate the meticulous work and realism.
He has artworks at the MNAC, at the Empordá Museum, the Maresme Regional Museum and the Catalan Academy of Fine Arts of Sant Jordi
