Ramón Martí i Alsina
(Barcelona 1826-1894)
Seascape with fishermen
Oil on canvas
60 x 100 cm.
19th century realistic painter, Marti I Alsina is considered to be the father of the catalan landscaping school and a pioneer of modern painting.
Well known by his landscapes and seascapes, historical themes, portraits, genre scenes.. We can find his artworks in the main museums.
In this piece the varnish, darkened and oxidized by passage of time, prevented us from correctly appreciating the quality and the typical colors of Marti i Alsina’s palette. After cleaning and removing the varnish layer we rediscover the characteristic sky of this painter, with blue and violet hues, and his agile and loose brush-stroke.
