Escuela del Greco
S. XVII

San Jeronimo
Oil on canvas
111 x 88 cm

There are several versions of this work in international museums. It was frequent in this period that painters and their disciples produced versions or copies of the same work. This work of the XVII century is undoubtedly one of the versions of El Greco’s workshop.
The varnish was completely oxidized by passage of time and prevented a proper assessment of the work. It was necessary to remove the old retouches as they were poorly executed in color and distorted the vision of the piece.
